ASSELBERGS, Gerald Jaap “Gerry”

Life Member of the Orangeville Optimist Club, which he served as president for 2 separate terms and was Lt. Governor of zone 6.

Peacefully at Headwaters Health Care Centre, Orangeville after a long and courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, December 22nd, 2009 in his 64th year; loving husband of Toosje; cherished father of Jeremy (Tammy) and Jeff; proud gramps of Tyler, Brandon and Steven; missed by all his brothers, sisters, their spouses and their children.

How can we describe this extraordinary man’s life with a few words. He has been a guiding light, an example to us all. His tenacity in fighting cancer, taught us how precious life is. He had the ability to laugh and joke and to see the world through optimistic eyes. He finished his “bucket list” and enjoyed every second of it. Gerry was a Life Member of the Orangeville Optimist Club, which he served as president for 2 separate terms and was Lt. Governor of zone 6.
Thanks to Dr. Donna Reece at PMH, the many doctors and nurses at Headwaters Health Care Centre for their loving care. Thanks to all of our family and friends for their support and prayers throughout the years. We will miss him terribly.

Send condolences
